Read on for 10 quick and easy cleanups that will prepare your home for unexpected guests in no time at all.

Create a welcome entry

The trick for quick "emergency" cleaning is to prioritize and focus on the things that your guests will notice. Your entry is the first impression of your home, but you will probably only be in this area when you greet and fire your guests.

Here, you just have to make the space decent at a glance. There is no need to spend time vacuuming or dusting each corner. Just give your interior and exterior rugs a good shake and save the mess that has accumulated here.

Make space

You will also want to leave room for your guests' items. If you can, free hooks or hangers on the coat rack and if your home requires it, make space near the front door for guests to leave their shoes.

You should also create an obvious space for guests to leave their bags or keys. Clear a surface near the entrance or the housing area that will not block the walkways or dirty the place where it will meet.

Surface sweep

After you have cleaned a surface for your guests' items, you should move around the rest of their living areas and sweep their coffee table, side tables, TV console and any other surface. If you are too stretched to keep things in place, then walk with a basket of clothes that can hold things temporarily.

Quick cleaning is to make things look tidy, not in the organization, so you can try to sort out the mess later if there is time. Once the surfaces are clear, spray and wipe quickly with a microfiber cloth and a universal cleaner.

Clean the bathroom

Cleaning your bathroom is a step you won't want to miss if you expect company. Guests will feel very uncomfortable if the mess and dirt from the daily use of the bathroom is visible.

Cool the toilet bowl again with a quick wash (a pinch of SuperScrub and a quick scrub should be the trick) and clean the sink, surfaces and faucet. Also, change hand towels and place a roll of spare toilet paper in an easily accessible place.

Collect lint and dust

It is not necessary to make a complete vacuum, but it is worth walking around your house, particularly in high traffic areas, to collect any visible accumulation of dirt and dust.

Vacuum or sweep these stains with a microfiber mop and clean dirty floor stains if you have time. Go on your couch and throw pillows with a lint roller to collect pet hair.

Wash the dishes

A sink full of dirty dishes will make your kitchen look messy, even if the rest is spotless. Put them in the dishwasher or wash them quickly and let them dry on the rack.

If you are desperate (and do not plan to use the oven for baking), place large items such as pots and pans or anything that does not have time to wash in the oven. It's about clearing things up so that your home looks presentable. Don't forget to take them out and wash them later!

Smell the refrigerator

While in the kitchen, open your refrigerator and check for unpleasant odors. There is nothing more unpleasant than a stench in the refrigerator, especially if you are about to share a meal! Take the time to get rid of anything after its expiration date.

Throw trash

While your nose is looking for stink, check your containers. Take them out if there is an unpleasant smell or even if they are close to being full. It is better to do it now than when you have visitors.

Keep the air fresh

When cleaning, avoid bleach or bleach. These chemicals not only emit an unpleasant smell, but they are also not healthy. Chloroform is commonly released as a chlorine smoke, which is related to respiratory damage and eye irritation. Instead, clean with natural products scented with pure organic essential oils that do not contain harmful chemicals.

Also avoid spraying air fresheners. Air fresheners contain mixtures of fragrances that do not require the disclosure of ingredient lists. This is due to a gap that defines "perfume" or "fragrance" as "trade secret" designed to protect product formulations. Some common ingredients in fragrances are phthalates and synthetic musks, and studies conducted by the EWG show that they have properties that alter hormones. Open the windows if the weather permits and let fresh air into your home.

Last touches

If you have time, make an extra effort with a quick finishing touch that will make your home feel even more cozy. Light a candle with a natural aroma, sponge the pillows and buy some flowers.

Don't forget that your guests will not visit you to criticize your home, so take time to feel relaxed and ready to spend quality time with your guests.

If you own or rent a house, apartment or even a room, you know that over time the walls can accumulate all kinds of marks, dust and dirt. Cleaning walls can be a daunting task, but you will be surprised how much brighter and cleaner your place can look.

Here are some cleaning tips to help make your home look like new!

Cover your furniture

Using temporary coverings such as newspapers, towels, old sheets or painter's sheets, cover anything of value as this will prevent possible water spills or cleaning solution from ruining the carpet or furniture. The last thing you want is to damage one area of the house when you try to clean another!

Move furniture

You want to be able to reach the dust that accumulates behind sideboards, appliances and other types of furniture. You can clean these often neglected areas now that the furniture is out of the way.

Prepare your walls to wash

Before cleaning, determine what type of paint is on the wall. The semi-satin or enameled paint will resist washing. Flat, stained or eggshell finishes are not as durable and can come off if you rub too hard or use an abrasive cleaner. No matter what type of paint you have on your walls, be sure to dust them off before washing them! Place the brush attachment in your vacuum and run it through the walls to remove dust and dirt from the surface.

It seems too much work? Leave the cleaning to us! Reserve your next residential cleaning today with our Elitehousekeeping.

Preparing Your Home for Fall

Do we hear a sigh? We know, we know ... you don't want to admit it, but the fall is definitely in the air. With the fresh morning air sending us for a walk around the house to find a light sweater that takes off at noon when the temperature warms up again, we know that summer is releasing its heat day by day.

A little buzz right? We promise that we are just trying to help! With autumn just around the corner, we have some tips to get ahead of the season and prepare your home so you only have to worry about falling into the leaves and taking those amazing autumn photos per gram.

Prepare your oven for the impending winter

I know ... we jump from autumn to winter. That sigh is now a groan we hear! But listen, now is the perfect time to check your oven and replace the filter before the temperature drops, which requires you to turn on the heat. If some time has passed, call a professional to make sure things work smoothly and have them repaired. After all, you won't want to wait until it's cold, right?

Clean your chimney

What is better than relaxing by the fireplace with a cup of hot tea or hot chocolate in the fall? There is something magical with those longer nights! If you have a fireplace, prepare it before the temperature drop makes you furious! Clean the chimney, inspect the chimney and make sure all doors and guards are working properly. The Ontario Fire Code requires that a chimney be inspected at least once a year and cleaned regularly to prevent creosote accumulation. This is especially important if you are using your fireplace or wood stove once or twice a week in winter.

Check windows and doors for cracks and openings

Making sure you are warm inside your humble abode is key to a Canadian fall and winter. Inspect your windows and doors for cracks and openings that allow hot air to escape and cold air to enter your home. If you find something, seal it with a little caulking. Doing this in advance will maximize your comfort and that of your family during the next season.

Clean your windows

With sunny blue skies and relatively comfortable temperatures during the summer, there were many days when I could have left the windows open to let in the fresh air. With that, you have probably followed the dust and debris on the window frames and sliding door rails, as well as on any blinds or blinds. Before the temperature drops, take soap and microfiber cloths and wash your windows. Be sure to access all corners and cracks where dust would have accumulated. Clean all blinds and blinds to remove dust or debris. You are likely to keep your windows closed during the seasons, so you'll want to do this from the beginning to help keep the air free of dust and allergens in your home. Do you find this task too tedious? Call us and add it to your next Maid home cleaning service at Elitehousekeeping!

Run a home security check

Security First! A good rule of thumb when remembering to replace your smoke alarm batteries and carbon monoxide monitors is to change them every time the watch goes back or advances on time. When summer time approaches, mark your calendar to replace those batteries with the change.
